Bending The Rules of Report Cards And Those Other Cards
(Manifesting Skill Development) (by Susan James)
============
When we were children and in school, we had "report card days". We
continued to have report cards pretty much through high school. Then
if we attended college or university, we simply had posted grades.
Those posted grades were often on a professors door or bulletin board.
Those report cards caused many anxious moments for lots of us.
Why?
We were being evaluated by others. We were being measured by
others. We had several authority figures bearing down our necks,
including our parents, over report cards. Then there was the peer
pressure.
We were always being told, that we had to have good grades or our
lives would be 'not great.....'.
Then one fine day, we leave the structure of school. But do the report
cards stop coming?
No, they simply changed format.
The name of the type of card changes from report cards to credit
cards. There's a reporting system that we keep being told we have to
abide by. Or if we don't, just as our parents scorned us over bad report
cards, we get scorned over bad credit cards. And again, the story
follows us, even tho we are older. We are told that we have to have
good credit reports, or our lives will be 'not great...'.
This became a theme of this essay for 2 reasons:
There was an episode of "Everybody Hates Chris" (Chris Rock),
where it was report card day. And he had gotten an F. Woe to Chris as
he went down the road of forging his mom's signature. (Anyone been
there?)
And then a casual acquaintance asked me for some financial advice as
she was in deep doo-doo with her credit cards.
It didn't take long for the analogy to create itself in my mind.
There are 2 approaches we can take with these types of cards. And
there is also an in-between approach.
The first approach is applying the lower laws. The lower laws are ones
in place by society and the humans who make up our society. Most of
us pretty much start here.
However, if we don't find a way to expand from this approach, we
will always be having to look over our shoulder for the next shoe to
fall.
The 2nd approach is to apply higher laws to our lower laws and the
events that we created with the lower laws.
What's the 'In-Between' approach?
It's the bridge building of us applying what we are learning in use of
the higher laws as each situation shows itself to us. We begin to "see"
the streamlining of our lives as we take the higher law approach.
What does this ultimately mean?
Answer: We get really good at bending the rules and it always
turns our in our favor.
But you'll never see that on a report card or a credit report.
How do we begin to get really good at bending the rules?
Read and Write.
